Lessons learned: Leveraging context and machine learning for the design of predictive and self-adaptive user experiences

Abstract

By leveraging machine learning techniques, digital channels are becoming more predictive and contextual. Through this evolution, user experience design is becoming more than just a two-dimensional user interface consideration. In this talk, Hossein will be talking about how data science and the synthesis of context from data, enable the design of a more adaptive and engaging user experience. He will demonstrate how his team is building tools enabling AI and Machine Learning to be used by non-computer and data scientists and how such capabilities creates a new ecology of services and users. The talk  includes real examples and demos of how Fortune 500s are making their user experiences learnable.

At the end, Hossein will be talking about his Augmented Eternity project at MIT Media Lab which is focused on enabling users to share expertise using AI.

Bio

Professor Hossein Rahnama is a recognized figure in ubiquitous and pervasive computing. His research explores artificial intelligence, mobile human-computer interaction, and the effective design of contextual services. In 2017, Hossein was recognized as one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. In 2012, he was recognized by the MIT Technology Review as one of the world’s top innovators under the age of 35 for his research in context-aware computing. The Smithsonian named Hossein as one of the top six innovators to watch in 2013. Hossein has 35 publications and 18 patents in ubiquitous computing, is serving on the board of Canadian Science Publishing, and was a Council Member of the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). Hossein is also a visiting professor at the Human Dynamics group at MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, MA. He has a PhD in Computer Science from Ryerson University.
